4 Tips to Boost Your Confidence in Front of the Camera

Updated: Feb 28, 2023

Getting in front of the camera can sound like a scary thing, especially if you’re just starting your business career.

When I started in business, I was nowhere near ready to get in front of the camera and film videos for my content. However, it's becoming increasingly vital that we keep creating video content as videos, Reels and IGTVs are preferred on social media platforms. Showing our face through video is becoming more essential to build brand reputation and maintain up to date with social media trends.

It’s becoming more apparent that brands and entrepreneurs need to start showing up for people to gain trust. The fact is that people invest in people. To start gaining trust and building relationships with your audience and community, you need to humanise your brand by showing your face, communicating with your audience through audio-visuals, sharing stories and generating emotion in your content. If people don’t see your face, how can they build trust and connect with you and your brand?

Tips For Building Your Self-Confidence

It can be daunting to put yourself out there by uploading a new video or image of yourself. I’ve been where you are now, I understand that it’s difficult to put yourself out there. I’ve had clients in the same boat who’ve been nervous at first, you’re not alone in this situation. Here are some of the methods that helped me and the advice I give to my clients when they’re starting in business.

Practice In Front of The Camera

The great thing about videos, Reels and IGTVs is that they’re not live! You can practice reruns, you can cut and edit your videos to where you missed a word or forgot a line. Get comfortable in front of the camera by recording yourself talking as if you’re explaining to a friend about your business or favourite topic of interest.

Master Your Self-Confidence

Is self-confidence an issue that you encounter when positioning yourself on camera? When you come to post your video, do you feel that people won’t find you engaging enough? It’s time to put those thoughts in the bin. You know that you’re an expert in your field, you know that you’re good enough to put yourself out there. I recommend practising self-love and giving yourself daily compliments about how proud you are of where you have come and what you have achieved. I promise you, it makes a world of difference.

Record Yourself In a Comfortable Environment

A key to feeling relaxed about being in front of the camera is to film in a place your feel comfortable in. Home environments, your garden, office or place with no one else around tends to be a good place to start. When I first started filming, I couldn’t be within earshot of others, just in case they heard me talking, which made me feel very nervous. My home office was a safe space as it was comfortable and out of the way from everyone.

Dress to impress

When you’re dressed in your best clothes, you start to feel more confident. Take this approach when getting in front of the camera. Dig deep through your wardrobe, fish out that outfit that boosts your confidence and mood.
